Denton Carnival
DistrictThe sun shone, the crowds gathered, yes it was carnival Day. Denton Scouts turned out in force to support the local Carnival. The parade was a great site and the scouts were well represented with floats/walking groups from 1st Haughton Green; 1st Denton; 5th Denton & 6th Denton. Well done to all those people who put the time and effort into making all the fantastic costumes. The Information Stall was out in Jubileee Square and this year there was considerable interest in joining the scouts let's hope it all converts into actual young people turning up at the groups.

CONGRATULATIONS to all who took part.

Check out the photos in the photo albums.

Could you be the new Chief Scout?
Scout NewsThe Chief Scout is the volunteer Leader of the Scout Movement in the UK.

With half-a-million members Scouting is the largest youth movement for girls and boys in the UK, and is part of the largest global peace movement in the world.

Scouting is a multi-cultural, multi-faith and growing organisation with an active programme of adventure and fun.

We are seeking someone with energy, commitment to the values of Scouting and world class leadership skills. This person would take over from Peter Duncan, the current Chief Scout, at the end of his tenure in the summer of 2009

The role will be to inspire, challenge and motivate our volunteer Leaders, who provide the Scouting experience, and to articulate and enthuse to external audiences. It is not essential for the Chief Scout to have personal previous experience of Scouting, but it would be an advantage.

Peter Duncan recently commented on what drew him to the role, ‘I've lived like a Scout all my life – I just hadn’t realised it. Whether it's been running acting workshops for youngsters, taking on adventurous outdoor challenges or going on family backpacking expeditions around the world, I've been a Scout in all but name.

‘When I became volunteer Chief Scout in 2004, it suddenly all fell into place - I already live this lifestyle – I was in a really good position to tell people that it is a very fulfilling one.‘

For Scout Network member James Furnish, meeting the Chief Scout was a life-changing moment, ‘His stories about his own escapades inspired me to push myself further and take part in an expedition around Mexico that is going towards my Queen’s Scout Award. One day I’d love to be Chief Scout and provide that same kind of inspiration.’

If you are as excited by the challenges ahead as we are, please email your CV to Hanson Green by Monday 23rd June; further information will be sent to you in return.

This is an opportunity open to all and will be advertised over the weekend in the Sunday Times. The Scout Association is an equal opportunities organisation.
